Why For the Love of Learning?

The Mother's Mind Matters

Charlotte Mason taught that education is an atmosphere. The tone of our homes, the quality of our conversations, and the ideas we live with shape our children far more deeply than we often realize. A mother who is growing intellectually, spiritually, and personally creates a home rich with life. What fills us quietly fills our homes, and our children breathe in the atmosphere of our attentiveness, wonder, and love of learning.

Charlotte Mason gently warned mothers not to allow their intellectual lives to shrink to the mechanics of managing children and running a household. When we read only about child rearing, our world can become small. But when we read widely, including history, poetry, theology, and biography, our minds expand. An expansive mother raises children who see the world as large, meaningful, and alive.

This year’s conference is designed not only to encourage mothers to remain students themselves, but also to give you the opportunity to experience what it truly means to be a learner. Because the education of the child begins with the education of the mother, our time together will both equip you in your role as a home educator and invite you to sit in the seat of the student, learning by doing, engaging with living ideas, practicing narration, delighting in beauty, and remembering what it feels like to be awakened to wonder.
